  • This is about my fifth stay here. I was amazed at how clean and new everything is this year. Lots of work has gone into everything. The new furniture is beautiful and it’s much nicer to not having to lug all my pillows, blankets etc. out here. The cabins have everything you need which is great! Loved our stay here, the best ever! Beautiful, clean, new, comfortable. What more could you ask for. The staff were great. See you next year.

Wilderness Discovery Family Resort

  & Conference Centre   

 

Welcome to our  Resort & Conference Centre.  We are  located on  beautiful Lake Shebandowan in the heart of North-western Ontario and is only  a 45 minute drive west of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. You can reach us driving either from the west on Highway #11, or from the east via Highways #11/17, or from the United States via US61 or US53.  Should you prefer to fly from your own city, we suggest flying direct via Air Canada, Porter Airlines, Westjet or Delta/Northwest Airlines to the Thunder Bay International Airport, where we offer transportation to/from our resort.   Ask for further details when booking.

Our resort  offers barrier free (handicapped accessible), modern, non smoking, completely furnished cabins with extra large decks to enjoy the view. All living spaces including kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms are ergonomically designed for mobility impaired individuals.  Each cabin comes complete with towels and bedlinens, blankets and pillows.  Just bring along your own food, drink, fishing equipment and a beach towel for swimming. 

Great Walleye/Pickerel, "World Class" Smallmouth  Bass and Northern Pike  fishing awaits you as soon as you step on our dock.    Fishing off of our dock is a major attraction for our guests as many a fish have been caught there.  Fishing on  lower, middle or upper Lake  Shebandowan continues to offer a wide assortment of fish and having many favourite fishing spots, you will no doubt get your limit.    A marked  swimming area, canoes, paddle boat and pontoon boat rides are only a few activities that you can enjoy while staying with us.

Bell ExpressVu Satellite TV/DVD/VCR' s along with WIFI, at no charge, are offered in each cabin.    Our games/library room offers a variety of games including Wii and our full size pool table.   Many books, DVD's and Videos are available to choose to further enjoy your stay.  While at our resort, you may use our coin-operated laundry service, available to all of our guests.

Should your visit with us be work related, available for all guests is our free WIFI service allowing you to receive all of your email, business meeting information downloads and presentations while attending your meeting,   retreat or conference in  the Shebandowan  East or West Rooms of our  Conference Centre.  Our facility serves the needs of many events such as business retreats, meetings, yoga classes, large or small weddings, birthday or anniversary parties,   family re-unions, and more.

Extra boats/motors are available to rent along with  canoes.    Use of our paddleboat is  no charge.    As a guest, you may moore your own watercraft at our dock during your stay.  

We are now an authorized MNR Angling and Hunting Licensee location and and offer live bait, available for purchase. 

For 2010 we are offering many great Speciality Accommodation Packages with or without some amenities, along with Welcome Grocery,   Conservation license and Extended stay  packages. To ensure your desired accommodation is confirmed, early reservations are suggested.  We will taylor your stay to suit your needs.  This is the place for family fun, great fishing, relaxing times around the campfire and lots of other activities.  Remember, if you forget something, check out our on-site store for any items that you may require.
